The Bull's Head became the headquarters of the village's Gooseberry Society, and accommodated Italian prisoners of war, then American servicemen, on its top floor during the Second World War. It was demolished in 1948 when the road was widened to facilitate traffic flow, as was The George and Dragon in 1970, though a new pub of the same name was built behind the original site.
